JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – It's championship season for the Jacksonville University men's rowing program as the Dolphins close out their 2015 schedule with two of their biggest regattas. First up, the MAAC Championship on Sunday, May 17 which will precede the IRA National Championship.
Facing their fellow conference competitors on Mercer Lake in West Windsor, N.J., the Dolphins are entering a varsity eight and second varsity eight.
Despite very close efforts, the MAAC title has eluded JU's men. The Fins and Marist, conference champions for the past 14 seasons, have finished 1-2 in the point total in the last two regattas. Last year, the Red Foxes edged JU by four points to claim the MAAC trophy and the year before the Dolphins were two points shy of winning it all.
JU's Last Outing
While two Dolphin boats took to the water at the Dad Vail Regatta last weekend, it's been nearly a month since JU's V8 and 2V8 crews have competed. Both advanced to the petite final in the SIRA Championship, finishing with a pair of top three times. The V8 crew finished first in its race in 5:49.625 while Jacksonville's second varsity eight was firmly in position for third in its final with a time of 6:00.52.
Following the MAAC Championships, the Dolphins return to Mercer Lake where it competes in the IRA Regatta on May 29.
