JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Jacksonville University women's basketball met Stetson at Historic Swisher Gymnasium Thursday night and dropped its first home game of the season by a score of 65-49.
Kayla Gordon finished the evening with her sixth double-double of the year on a game-high 12 points and 15 rebounds. Christin Mercer recorded 10 points and six rebounds and Sherranda Reddick added 10 points.
The Dolphins (16-6, 5-2 ASUN Conference) worked the paint for a game-opening 6-0 run but saw the momentum shift into a Hatter (17-5, 6-1 ASUN) lead after the first media timeout (4:50). With Sarah Sagerer stuffing any attempt in her area – she finished the quarter with six blocks – the visitors finished the frame up, 17-16.
Jacksonville was held scoreless for the first four minutes of the second frame until an old-fashioned three-point play by Mercer. The Hatters padded their advantage to 11 before the basket, and saw it dwindle to two, 27-25, on a Dolphin rally. Four different players scored during the stretch.
Brianti Saunders put an end to JU's run with her third three-pointer of the period, and the half concluded with visitors up 35-28 after a midcourt trey by McKenna Beach.
Jacksonville's closest deficit in the latter half was 35-30 at the 8:31 mark of the third quarter.
The Dolphins will play host to Florida Gulf Coast Saturday at 1 p.m. with the Air Elite Dunkers performing at halftime. Tickets are available at JUTickets.com.
