Zinis Scores But Match Equalizer Erased in Closing Minutes

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – It was a scoreless first half at Southern Oak Stadium Friday night where the Jacksonville University women's soccer team hosted Lipscomb in ASUN Conference play. In the final 45, the visitors recorded two goals, including the game-winner in the 89th minute, to take the decision, 2-1.

Zoe Zinis tied the match at 1-all at the 87:49 mark.

She now sits second on the team in points behind Joëlle d'Entremont who assisted her goal with a cross to the box.

"This was a typical, tough conference game. We knew it was going to be a fight," said Head Coach Brian Copham. "We made a few adjustments at the half, and it raised our intensity. Unfortunately, we let our guard down for just a second, and they took advantage of it."

Lipscomb registered its first advantage on a long ball played at the midfield line. The free kick found its way to the box and Ellen Lundy touched it in for the 1-0 edge. Prior to the score, the Lady Bisons' attacking efforts led to a 14-5 shot advantage, but only one attempt on-goal.

The Dolphins evened the match with less than three minutes remaining in regulation, and Sope Akindoju provided the space for the goal to occur. As d'Entremont played a cross into the box, Akindoju pulled a defender away from the area to allow Zinnis to tap in the equalizer.

On the ensuing possession, Lipscomb charged downfield and a deflection paved way for the 2-1 final score.

Sara Wicks finished the evening with four saves while Kyra Cloutier paced the team with three shots.

Jacksonville closes out the weekend at home with a 2 p.m. match against Kennesaw State on Sunday.
